It’s a diploma at the end of the French secondary school, it is not connected and is not part of the French educational system. The IB is still widely used today around the world.

From September 2022 the OIB will be progressively replaced by a new exam: the baccalauréat Français international (BFI).
The American version of the BFI is quality assured by the College Board working in partnership with the French Ministère de l’Education Nationale.

The French International Baccalaureate (BFI) is an academically-enhanced version of the French baccalaureate. It is a bilingual and bicultural exam taken by less than 1% of French baccalaureate candidates worldwide.

How is the class structured?

During the class time, the French tutor structures the classes according to the French learning needs to pass the exam. A-Level French

The A-Level (Advanced Level) is a subject-based qualification conferred as part of the General Certificate of Education, as well as a school leaving qualification offered by the educational bodies in the United Kingdom and the educational authorities of British Crown dependencies to students completing secondary or pre-university education.[1] They were introduced in England and Wales in 1951 to replace the Higher School Certificate.

GCSE

The General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) is an academic qualification in a particular subject, taken in England, Wales,[1] and Northern Ireland. State schools in Scotland use the Scottish Qualifications Certificate instead. Private schools in Scotland may choose to use GCSEs from England.

Each GCSE qualification is offered in a specific school subject (English literature, English language, mathematics, science, history, geography, art and design, design and technology, business studies, classical civilisation, drama, music, foreign languages, etc).

The Department for Education has drawn up a list of preferred subjects known as the English Baccalaureate for England on the results in eight GCSEs including English, mathematics, the sciences (physics, chemistry, biology, computer science), history, geography, and an ancient or modern foreign language.[2]

Studies for GCSE examinations take place over a period of two or three academic years (depending upon the subject, school, and exam board), starting in Year 9 or Year 10 for the majority of students, with examinations being sat at the end of Year 11 in England and Wales.

Imogen my daughter (20yrs old) has been having Skype French lessons with Learn French at Home since May 2009 ( when she was 12) ! She started them in middle school as she was struggling with French ( a compulsory IB component). The Skype lessons allowed her to gain the confidence to learn the vocabulary and also speak French in a non threatening environment. Having Skype lessons meant Imogen was able to have the classes at home, which are significantly more flexible than face to face classes.
